Light Snow & Lake-Effect

Tuesday started the day with sunshine before clouds began overspreading the region by afternoon. Temperatures climbed into the upper 20s to low 30s.

Tuesday night, light snow will continue to fall across the region and will accumulate under one inch by daybreak. Temperatures will dip into the low to mid 20s north and mid 20s south and along the lakeshore. Winds will be east at 5-10 mph inland before becoming nearly calm and east-southeast at 4-8 mph along the lakeshore. Wind chills will be in the mid to upper teens.

Wednesday, lake-effect snow showers will develop during the morning along the lakeshore and reach inland areas during the afternoon. Snowfall will range from 1-2 inches along the lakeshore to around an inch inland. Temperatures will be mid to upper 20s north and upper 20s to low 30s south and along the lakeshore. Winds will be southwest-west at 7-14 mph inland and shift from the southeast to the west at 8-18 mph along the lakeshore. Wind chills will be in the low to mid 20s.

Wednesday night, lake-effect snow showers will continue with another 1-2 inches possible along the lakeshore with an inch or less inland. Temperatures will slip into the upper teens to low 20s inland and low to mid 20s along the lakeshore. Winds will shift from the west to the northwest at 8-16 mph inland and northwest at 8-16 mph along the lakeshore. Wind chills will be in the the low to mid teens.

Thursday will be mostly cloudy with a few lingering lake-effect flurries over southwest Lower Michigan. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20s. Winds will be northwest at 8-16 mph inland and 10-18 mph along the lakeshore. Wind chills will be in the mid teens to near 20°.

Friday will feature partly sunny skies will some light snow possible during the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20s.

Saturday, temperatures will be falling from the upper 20s into the mid teens during the day as much cold temperatures arrive for the second half of the weekend. Lake-effect snow showers will develop with some accumulations likely.

Lake-effect snow showers will continue on Sunday with additional accumulations, especially near the lakeshore. Temperatures will struggle to near 20°. Winds will be strong from the north-northwest contributing to some blowing and drifting snow. Wind chills will fall below zero.

The 6-10 Day Outlook for Monday, January 12 through Friday, January 16 calls for below average temperatures and near average precipitation. Average highs are around 29° with average precipitation of .35" and average snowfall of 3.4".

The 8-14 Day Outlook for Wednesday, January 14 through Tuesday, January 20 calls for below average temperatures and near average precipitation. Average highs are around 29° with average precipitation of .46" and average snowfall of 4.8".
